I vote for Neil Shubin's, "Your Inner Fish".

I was just listening to a podcast discuss "Your Inner Fish". They were discussing the hiccups and how they relate to gill breathing. It gets my vote.

"Your Inner Fish" is fine by me. Also, "Music, Language, and the Brain" looks interesting.

I think your inner fish would be a good choice as well, although I do offer a few more titles to add to the list:

The selfish gene by Richard Dawkins

Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot Uncovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence--and Formed a Deep Bond in the Process by Irene M. Pepperberg

Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan

Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex by Mary Roach

and seeing as it is Darwins birthday this month I had to suggest
The origin of the species.

I like what Publishers Weekly had to say about "Your Inner Fish"

"Fish paleontologist Shubin illuminates the subject of evolution with humor and clarity in this compelling look at how the human body evolved into its present state."

"Shubin excels at explaining the science, making each discovery an adventure, whether it's a Pennsylvania roadcut or a stony outcrop beset by polar bears and howling Arctic winds."

On Amazon Online 88 reviews gave an average of 4.5/5 stars.

Since the book does deal with evolution it fits in with this month being Darwin's birthday.

Yep, I'd like to vote for 'Your Inner Fish' as well.

Inner fish has my vote, but, since I used to be a marine biologist, I might have a tad bit of bias towards the topic.

I see that "Alex & Me:" was mentioned, not a bad read, and I suddenly felt that my African Grey Parrot probably rode the short bus, or is it the short nest?

I bought "Your Inner Fish" today so it gets my vote too.

I just finished Your Inner Fish a few weeks ago, great book.
Other recommendations:
- Now I am reading Signs of Life: How Complexity Pervades Biology by Sole and Goodwin.
- Right hand, left hand: The origins of asymmetry in brains, bodies, atoms and cultures by McManus which won Aventis Prize in 2003. Might be especially interesting for a leftie like me =)
